The Canada Border Services Agency’s CARM Client Portal is now open for registration at: https://ccp-pcc.cbsa-asfc.cloud-nuage.canada.ca/en/homepage
The CBSA Assessment and Revenue Management (CARM) project is a multi-year initiative that changes how duties and taxes are collected on commercial goods imported into Canada. CARM Release 1 is the launch of the CARM Client Portal, and it launched on May 25, 2021.
All importers, customs brokers, and trade consultants must register and create an account on the CARM Client Portal. To ensure you are ready for this important transition, we’ve laid out the key steps to register for the CARM Client Portal in our last update: Onboarding to the CARM Client Portal.
However, as mentioned, the CBSA has advised that customs brokers and trade consultants will be prioritized in the registration process. There are currently a few glitches to be worked out by the CBSA. We will let you know when Summit Customs Brokers & Trade Consultants has fully registered. At that point, you can complete your registration and delegate authority to us so that we may continue to act on your behalf.
Update, June 1, 2021: We are now registered on the CARM Client Portal and ready for you to delegate authority to us.
To get ready to set up your account on the CARM Client Portal, you will need the following information:
- The 9-digit BN and importer RM extension registered to your legal business
- The exact legal corporate name and complete address
- The answers to 2 of 3 following questions:
- What is the transaction number, and total duties and taxes of one of your recent transactions?
This is a recent transaction for the RM importer account (15-character Importer Number) that you are using to register your account. You can find the transaction number on your invoice under the heading: Transaction Number
- What is the exact value of your most recent payment?
This is the most recent payment on your RM importer account that you are using to register your account.
- What is the balance of your last Statement of Account?
This is the last Statement of Account for your RM importer account that you are using to register your account.
CARM Release 2 will expand on the functionalities of the CARM Client Portal. It is scheduled for Spring 2022.
At that time, there will be a major change with importing bonds. Importers will need to secure and post their own importing bond if they would like to participate in the Release Prior To Payment Privilege (RPP). This should be done no later than Jan 1, 2022 — well before CARM Release 2 — to ensure your business is not disrupted. Please see the Frequently Asked Questions section on our CARM Information page: https://nearnorthcustoms.com/carm for more details.
There, you will also see other answers to commonly asked questions, in addition to resources from the Canada Border Services Agency. This page is continually updated to support you. Additionally, there is a CARM Contact Us form for any questions about CARM for our CARM team.
We look forward to supporting you and your business.
