To avoid significant delays or interruptions, now is the time to register and get your importing bond in place.
We would like to remind you again of the very important changes coming to the Canadian importing community with CARM, the CBSA Assessment Revenue and Management project. It allows clients that import commercial goods into Canada to interact directly with the CBSA (Canada Border Services Agency) online.
There are two things you need to do to ensure that you don’t experience any unnecessary interruptions or delays.
1. First, if you haven’t already done so, you must register on the CARM Client Portal to continue
to import commercial goods into Canada. If you are not registered, you will simply not be able import goods into Canada beyond Spring 2022, the expected approximate date scheduled for CARM Release 2. As you will need several things on hand to register, we urge you to do this immediately.
To register, visit: https://ccp-pcc.cbsa-asfc.cloud-nuage.canada.ca/en/homepage
You will then need to delegate authority to Summit Customs Brokers & Trade Consultants as your designated customs broker so that we can continue to process transactions on your behalf. For directions, visit our CARM page: changc17.sg-host.com/CARM
2. Starting in Spring 2022 (CARM Release 2), all importers must have their own bond in place to import into Canada with Release Prior to Payment privileges. You can do this through your own financial institution or shop around for rates at other financial institutions. You can also have us arrange this for you.
With expected delays in processing, we are asking all our valued clients to prioritize applying for and setting up a bond. We are recommending you are registered and have an import bond in place by January 2022 to avoid significant interruptions to your imports.
What happens if you don’t obtain a surety bond? You will have to prepay for all your imported goods up front.
