Mandatory Automated Export System Filing for All Shipments Requiring Shipper's Export Declaration Information

The following information pertains to Exports from the USA entering Canada, of either Used Vehicles or Importing Goods Temporarily from the USA valued over $2500.00 (such as items for a Trade Show, or a Lease, or for Repair and Return)

In the past, exports from the USA to Canada were exempt from filing export information, expect in certain cases. Effective April 5, 2014 it will be a new requirement to report export shipments of either used self-propelled vehicles and temporary exports, by filing electronic export data through the Automated Export System (AES) to U.S. Customs & Border Protection.

Please note there is an Informed Compliance period from April 5, 2014 until October 2, 2014 where no penalties will be incurred, after October 2, 2014 penalization for electronic filing will be applied.

In the case of the Used Self-Propelled Vehicles, the electronic filing must take place at least 72-hours, prior to arrival at the border for export.

in all cases, exporters of these goods from the USA, may file electronically themselves through AES Direct.
